Yes To Tomatoes Trouble Free Facial Wash -£8.99 100ml
Today's post is on one of my faves, Yes To.
For those of you that don't know about this range yet but love anything Natural, I suggest you quickly go and check them out. When I first came across Yes To my initial reaction was, 'Waiiit, what...carrots & tomatoes?! On my FACE?! Eww!' Then I looked into it a bit more and thought, 'Hmmm sounds interesting, sounds good!' So here we are many months later and I'm fretting about getting more in the post before I run out of my current stash (came through last week and I am now blissfully stocked with Tomatoey/Carroty goodness.)
Yes To is a Natural range of beauty products from cleansers to moisturisers and tinted lipbalms which harness the wholesome powers of organic Carrots, Tomatoes, Cucumber and Blueberries (as well as other natural ingredients) as a main in their products alongside Dead Sea Minerals.
Yes To Tomatoes Facial Wash is designed to purify and balance out Oily/Combination skin. Using this has certainly helped my oily patches but I would only advice people with this skin type to use it as it does leave your skin very squeaky clean after use which may not be so beneficial to those with dry or sensitive skin. My skin feels really fresh and super clean after use but I do occasionally like to add a little moisturiser afterwards as sometimes I feel a little too oil free from this. The facial wash is lightly scented and although I can't quite put my finger on the exact smell, it is very pleasant and 'fresh' smelling. This wash also has a combination of watermelon and Rosemary in it which maybe lending it it's scent. The scent doesn't linger after washing so if you're not so keen then you wont have to smell it all day. The wash is a traditional gel like substance that lathers up nicely and a little goes a long way. It is faintly orange in colour but that doesn't transfer to the skin in the slightest! This is a good face wash and I continue to use it daily but personally I don't think it is the best of the Yes To products, I actually prefer the Carrot range of products (which I normally use) to this Tomato based one but it hasn't put me off trying the other tomato products in the range, I know I have tricky skin and everyday it will be a little bit different, overall the face wash is great. I'm just not in love with it as I am the Carrot Exfoliating Facial Cleanser (review to follow soon).
As said before this is definitely designed for Oily/Combination skin. The products are split into skin types. Tomatoes are for Oily (acne prone also)/Combination Skin, Carrots for Normal to Dry Skin and Hair, Cucumbers for Sensitive skin and Colour treated hair and the Blueberry range is targeting Mature or age damaged skin. So choose the range that best matches your skin/hair type. I will also be reviewing other products from the range in the future as I often mix and match between the types as my skin is very temperamental and frequently changes due to other factors.
The price is quite reasonable. The Tomatoes Facial wash costs £8.99 for 100ml and a little does go a long way so it does last quite a while even with daily use. The Yes To range is available from many natural beauty/cosmetics sites like Mypure.co.uk and traditional online stores such as Feelunique.com, Beautybay.com and Amazon.co.uk aswell as their own site yestocarrots.com
The Eco side: Yes To products are free from Parabens, SLS. Phthalates and Petroleum and all products are at least 95% natural. All of Yes To's packaging is recyclable and they don't test on animals (they have won 'best beauty brand' by PETA twice!) A portion of their sales goes to their 'Seed Fund' which is in aid of getting kids more connected with nature and a healthy lifestyle. Really a lovely wholesome company. Apparently their staff even have yoga days (according to website) ahha brilliant. I love yoga myself so this makes me really chuckle!
The Body Shop - Pink Grapefruit Beautifying Oil -
As always I was browsing The Body Shop online the other day and had a million things that I wanted to buy in my shopping cart. Then I saw that that day, they had a 24hr only exclusive offer on their new upcoming range of Beautifying Oils for a reduced special introductory price and with free delivery! How could I resist?
I immediately went into 'how much would it cost for ALL OF THEM mode' then snapped out of it and rationally bought just one. The Pink Grapefruit oil. I looooove anything grapefruit, for me the smell is just perfect! Now I wish I had stayed in that 'buy them aaaall' mode and not been sensible because ooooh I love it so much that I DO want them ALL!
This Pink Grapefruit Beautifying Oil really is smashing! The scent is beyond heavenly, it actually makes my mouth water! The oil is a dry oil and is made up from pressed pink grapefruit seeds, kukui, sweet almond and marula nut oils. It locks in moisture and moisturises at the same time. I have been using is a lot on my knees as they get pretty ashy and it definitely helps. The great thing about this oil is that as it's a dry oil it is absorbed quickly and you don't feel wet or greasy after applying it. As I've mentioned (a million times already, obsessed much!) the scent of grapefruit is fabulous and does linger nicely on the skin. Unlike with some oils I've tried the scent doesn't 'go off' or become 'tainted' after time and just wears off naturally like a perfume really. So on one hand you don't go around smelling like gone off grapefruit but you also don't go smelling like you've just jumped in a bath of grapefruit juice leaving a smell that knocks people of their feet! So no complaints there!
There is also a wide range of scents/flavours. You have 11 to choose from: Strawberry, Moringa, Mango, Chocomania, Shea, Olive, Coconut, Sweet Lemon, Pink Grapefruit, Satsuma and Cocoa Butter.
As with most oils this can be used on damp or dry skin and on dry hair. You can use it on body, face and hair. So far I have mostly been using it on my body and face. The oil is meant to illuminate the skin and although I wouldn't say that it illuminates dramatically for a long time, your skin does look fresher and brighter after use but that does soon dull down. The oil is also designed to smooth out the skin but so far I don't reckon I have been using it long enough to see if this is the case, so I will update on that aspect after a longer period, the same goes fro trying it on my hair.
Using it on my face had been beneficial for sure. I'm noticing that my skin is less prone to oily patches in the day and night since I've been lightly applying it to my face after I take off my make up. Best of all I have had no problems with clogged pores after using this oil which I have experienced after using other oil products.
Overall I think the price is quite reasonable for 100ml you pay about £9 (I got mine for just over £6 as it was an introductory offer). The packaging is sleek and pretty, and the oil dispenser comes as a small drip top so you can easily apply as little or as much as you need with no mess or spillages. Can't fault it.
Also as its a Body Shop product this oil is also good in other ways! The Marula Oil is Community fair trade and with the oils its pretty natural.
Happy Earth day!!
Earth day is super duper important, It's like valentines for our world. One special day where you stop and go, 'yeeaah Earth is damn great!' and think about all the fabulous things that it provides. But of course like valentines you shouldn't just keep love for one day! Recycling is ridiculously important, so is water conservation (this drought we are having at the moment is serious, bad.) These issues like saving energy and electricity are such strong focus but remember it is also super important to take care about the products that you buy and use for your beauty. Not only what it is doing to your body but also what is does to the earth when you wash it away or throw it away (if it's un recyclable). So obviously you guys are checking this out because you are concious of giving the best most natural products to your skin and body but you can do that and be conscious of the earth at the same time! There are whole loads of products out there that do both wonderful important roles and we should enjoy grabbing them with both hands!
At the moment feelunique.com are doing a fabulous earth day promotion on natural, eco products and spreading the word on these wonderful brands. So love the earth and pop along to feelunique to snap up some brilliant ethical, eco, and natural earth day bargains! You wont regret it! I have been using many of these brands (current fave is Yes To: Carrots) and they are fabulous, many reviews to follow!

Balm comes in a sphere that glides smoothly onto your lips
eos Medicated Tangerine Smooth Sphere Balm (7g) has a flat base to
stand on so it's not going to roll away anywhere!
I recently discovered EOS (evolution of smooth) as a brand and have already got super excited by their products. Now I know in America they are a big thing but here in the UK they are only still trickling in as a brand and so for us they are still pretty new and damn exciting!
EOS specialise in natural cosmetics that also look and feel great, fun and wonderful as well as making you smooth as a babies bum. And they really do just that! I jumped straight away on the EOS spherical lip balms as they are the sweetest lip balms I have ever seen! These lip balms come in a little sphere case and the balm itself is an orb to glide smoothly over your lips. All their balms are packed full with Shea Butter, Jojoba oil and Vitamin C, and come in a nice range of delicious scents/flavours. These beauties are 95% organic, 100% natural and are FREE from Glutens, Parabens (a chemical preservative), Petrolatum and Phthalate (acid that is used to make things like plastic more flexible). Good stuff!
Flavours available are: Sweet Mint, Summer Fruit, Lemon Drop (spf 15), Medicated Tangerine, Strawberry Sorbet and Honeysuckle Honeydew. A Passionfruit flavour is also available in a set of two with Strawberry Sorbet.
I have really dry chapped lips and so chose the Medicated Tangerine as my trial choice. Now, do I like it?!
Oh do I LIKE it!! Yes yes! The wonderful orb shape of the balm makes it so easy to glide onto your lips and the texture is creamy but light. Many medicated lip balms are quite heavy and thick but this one is thinner and light weight. It isn't greasy or oily and gives my lips a little bit of shine without it looking too glossy or wet looking. Nor does it appear matt and dry which can often enhance the appearance of chapped-ness, so on that front it is great!
Now the taste and the scent. Well to be honest if I was asked what it smelt like with my eyes closed I wouldn't jump and and shout 'Tangerine!!' I would actually say it smells 'mediciny' (I tried it and medical bandages sprang to mind...weird). Naturally being a Medicated lip balm that is probably the reason but I think I would like the Tangerine smell to come through a little more, but overall the scent is pleasant enough and isn't overbearing. I certainly wouldn't say it is at all unpleasant, personally I quite like the medicated layer to the smell. It makes me think the lip balm really is doing good. The same goes for the taste, which I think is better than the smell. The taste is quite pleasant, a little sweet, vanilla orangey taste which I really enjoy! It's not over powering or so yummy that I lick it off, just the right balance of tastiness for me! Plus the medicated smell doesn't come through in the taste which is a bonus as other medicated lip balms I have tried do taste like menthol and what I imagine (based on the smell) antiseptic tastes like. So 10/10 on the taste!
The only slight hang up for me is the price, it normally retails about £5-6 (plus p&p which varies on each site) on natural cosmetics websites. I guess because it's imported in from the USA. I managed to get it for just over £4 on ebay (including p&p) so that's the best place to go to buy this. However, it is quite long lasting on the lips which is great because a little goes a long way and you do actually get quite a lot of product for your money. I think that this balm will last a long time so if you don't mind splashing out once in a long while then the price is not so bad. I certainly will be purchasing the other flavours to try as I am enjoying this one enough to warrant the expense. It's my guilty little treat (a treat that does good too!)
This balm I think is a goodun! It has defiantly moisturised my lips nicely and I think genuinely improved the chapped issues that I have. What's doubly good is that it's 100% natural!!
This starter Kit includes: 2x Mineral Powder Foundation (the 2 diff colours from the shade category you choose), 1x Primer, 1x Warmth, 1x Mineral Veil, and 3x Brushes. I also bought as an extra the Joyous Jennifer Blush (the pink powder pot, see below)
My fave Blush in Joyous Jennifer
Starter Kit also includes 1x Get Started DVD and 1x Get Started Booklet
A few weeks ago I went to a beauty and makeup session at a local salon. The focus of the makeup was on bareMinerals. I have always hovered over buying BM whenever I took a interwebz trip to feelunique.com or gorgeous.com but never built up the courage to splash out that much money on a product I wasn't sure would be right for me. Well, that all changed after about 2 seconds of getting my beady eyes and twitching fingers on the amazingly massive range on display in the salon. I was colour matched and skin typed perfectly (my ma's opening words after seeing me all made up, were: 'ooh you don't look half as orange and fake as you usually do anymore!'...charming.) I came out super duper impressed and with a much lighter purse.
bareMinerals really is amazing, what draws me to it most is that it is all natural, the foundations are made out of minerals and natural ingredients, avoiding harsh chemicals that will damage and clog up your skin and its proven to improve your skin after continued use. Wonderful. Normally I'm a liquid/mouse foundation girl and avoided powder because I'm not overly keen on the matt look, but the bM foundations are perfect. Using the powder in a circular buffing technique creates an amazingly even, full but natural coverage. It controls my oily patches, especially using the oil control primer which is superb! But the best thing is that I have a lovely dewy glowing look overall, no powdery matt dryness at all! The Mineral Veil keeps everything in place and the range of colours for the foundation, warmth, blush and shadows is brilliantly boggling. Excellent pigmentation in the colours as well and they are super long lasting. I love Joyous Jennifer as a blush shade, it's so warm and soft. The Foundation comes in different categories of Shades: Light, Medium, Tan and Dark and each shade has two colours to choose from. (The starter kit provides both colours within the category you choose.) So colour matching is pretty easy and risk free.
bM is so easy to use and you can get starter kits with DVDs that show you exactly what to do, but you pick up the technique in no time. The brushes are brilliant as well though I do advise giving them a gentle wash before use as the buffing action tends to loosen out the smaller bristles when they are newly used. As the makeup is mineral powder the brushes stay a lot less clogged and dirty than with liquid foundation use and so don't need as frequent washing and also don't spread dirty old makeup across your face after a few uses. The Full Flawless Face brush is quite stiff which is good for buffing and the small Flawless Face brush is beautifully soft. My fave is deffs the Max Coverage Concealer brush and it just applies the powder perfectly into every spot you need it. Win.
Really in love with my bM kit! After using it now for a few weeks I honestly can say my skin genuinely has improved in texture, oiliness and I'm having far fewer break outs than I ever have had before. My skin feels softer and smoother. Now I have the routine and technique down perfectly I can even apply it quickly on the bus if I don't have time in the morns like I had to today. I had an absolutely mental driver and have a bruise on my knee from hitting the seat in front due to his ridic braking skillz, buuuutt still successfully managed to do my whole face without any spillage thanks to the excellent 'twist and lock' mechanisms the pots have.
The only problem I have is that it is still quite expensive (prices vary depending of source of purchase but this set is usually around the £49 mark, you can get another version without the primer that is a bit cheaper) but I reckon worth it for the results and the products last along time as you use so little even for full coverage. Also even after a few gentle washes my full cover face brush is still shedding a bit, but not so bad that its patchy so it may just be my rough technique that I have with my eagerness to get it on my face! Who knows. All I can say is that I love love love it and it has lit a very strong Mineral Makeup fire within me and I have already hunted down a whole bunch of other products to try!!
Fantastic! This is a must try!
