Alison Claire Mango Body Butter

9 August 2013

So you guys know that I love, love love and hate scents right? Scents and smells are uber important to me. If something smells gross, chances are i wont use it, no matter how great a product is. That sounds silly but honestly scent for me is the difference between yes and no. Scents are very powerful.

So what has this got to do with Alison Claire Mango Body Butter? Well, i'll admit, i was very reluctant to try this as I am really not a mango fan, mostly the taste, but often the smell, it's not for me. I knew obviously that the main 'mango' aspect would be the main ingredient of the formula, but i still expected it to be topped off with a fake mango scent (oh cynical me). However, I thought, 'come on Mavs, get over it' and whipped open this little tube of body butter.

Well gosh darn if it doesn't just smell simply amazing!!
And I'll tell you another thing it doesn't, despite being made with mango butter, it doesn't smell anything like mango. No, no this body butter smells like the best most delicious red strawberry shoelaces sweets ever! Scrummy. It took me forever to figure out the scent. I'd walk around sniffing my arm, sticking it under peoples noses questioningly going 'i know this smell, it reminds me of something i know, i know i know it' and on and on until i'd figured it out. It was one of those 'eureka!' moments. I put it on, snuggled into bed, then PING, bop i got it. Red shoes laces. Aaah when i was a kid i used to have them as such a treat!

And seriously using this body butter is just such a treat, and not just because of the scent. It has quite a thick formula when it comes out the tube, but it goes on like smooth cream and sinks in beautifully, fast with no oil or residue! And the scent sticks around for a great amount of time.
This body butter is perfect all over the body and i especially love using it on my arms and my elbows. A quick rub of this once a day and my elbows definitely hydrate and become smoother.

The formula is made with mango (obvs) and cocoa butter along with a huge helpful heap of amazing ingredients including vitamin E, green tea, citric acid, aloe vera, white willow and comfrey herbs. Combined they make a really luscious body butter that is very hydrating and nourishing. A little goes a long way but i like it so much i'm rationing myself!

Now packaging is also important to me, and i am so happy with this one. I wish all packaging was like this. Essentially its a solid tube pump, but the pump is really easy to use, it's not so stiff that you can't get anything out and not so loose that a huge globule gushes out. And the pump isn't restricted to a 'pump measurement' like some pumps. So the control you have using this is perfect, no wasting product and no need to use it really really carefully!

70% organic ingredients and only £7.99 for 50ml, also available in a 200ml tub (£15). Not bad, not bad at all!

So the moral of this review? Don't judge a product by it's name. Lesson well and truly learnt. Now where did i put that fish scented shampoo....

(...i joke! But if you want to read more about a product that shouldn't be judged by it's name, check out my Cow Pat Hand Cream review!)
